The song's lyrics also include references to a desire for weary optimism. Its instrumentation is varied with the sound of thumping drums, chiming guitars, a singalong chorus, and a string arrangement. The song opens with a single crash cymbal followed by two bars of 4/4 drumming, then a plaintive three- note guitar line rings through a strummy rhythm, and Martin's vocals. He also commented that when they started recording the song, they did not know how it should sound, due to the band members' contrasting ideas. Martin also said that: "That's about where you're put in the world, and how you're given your position, and the way you look, and how you have to get on with it." It’s one of the only Coldplay songs I ever hear on the radio, so I always love it when it comes on. And probably regretting some of his actions. They do a really great job of painting that picture of an outcast king yearning for what he once had. I feel like a lot of songs in the album use nostalgia, but Viva La Vida is one of the best, along with Strawberry Swing. The lyrics and story behind Viva is my favorite part about it. I also really like the bass drum they use in this one. The first 5 notes are probably one of the most recognizable of any song! It’s so cool!Ĭoldplay did a really great job of utilizing string instruments en lieu of their traditional instrumentation. Viva La Vida was Coldplay’s first ever No. It’s day number 145 of listening to every Coldplay song in alphabetical order! Today I listened to Viva La Vida from… Viva La Vida, released in 2008. ![]()
